Privacy Policy - Moon Guide

Updated October 8, 2026

Summary

Moon Guide has no user accounts or developer-operated server. Astronomy, location, compass, and motion calculations stay on your device. The app uses Google AdMob to show limited, non-personalized advertising on its Calendar and Learn screens. Core Moon features remain available offline and ads never appear in the Moon finder or time explorer.

Location

If you choose “Use My Location,” Apple’s Core Location service provides a location to the app so it can calculate the Moon’s local position. Moon Guide processes that location on your device. It is not transmitted to the developer or any third party. You may use approximate location, select a preset place, or enter coordinates manually instead.

Motion and compass information

When the Finder is visible, Moon Guide uses device heading and motion information to provide turn-and-tilt guidance. These readings are processed temporarily on your device and are not transmitted or retained by the developer.

Data stored on your device

The app may save your selected observation location in its local app storage so it is available the next time you open the app. You can replace it in the app, and “Clear saved place and reminders” deletes these observing preferences and the shared widget Keychain record. The private Keychain record may survive app deletion or reinstallation; use the clear action before deleting if you want it removed. Purchases remain managed by Apple.

Advertising and data handled by Google

Moon Guide uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google’s User Messaging Platform. When an ad is allowed, Google may receive an IP address (which can estimate coarse location), app- or developer-bounded device identifiers, advertising and ad-interaction data, product-interaction data, and crash, performance, or other diagnostic data. Google uses these categories to deliver and measure advertising, prevent fraud, and operate or improve its services. Moon Guide does not send your selected observation coordinates, precise location, compass readings, motion readings, selected dates, or Moon searches to Google.

Moon Guide disables ad personalization at the SDK level, disables Google’s publisher first-party identifier, does not request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission, and does not access IDFA. Every banner request also explicitly requests non-personalized ads and restricted data processing. Serving follows consent choices. Non-personalized advertising can still use permitted identifiers or local storage for frequency capping, fraud prevention, and aggregated reporting; it does not mean that Google receives no data. Google may retain and process advertising data under its own policies. Learn more in Google’s advertising policy and Google’s privacy policy.

Your privacy choices

Where consent or privacy choices are required, Moon Guide asks Google’s certified consent platform for the current requirements before requesting an ad. You can reopen “Manage Ad Privacy Choices” from the app’s location and privacy settings whenever that option is required. If consent is unresolved, denied, unavailable, or the device is offline, the app remains usable and does not require an ad to continue.

Widgets, reminders, and purchases

Moon Guide shares only the saved observing place with its own Lock Screen widget using a private shared Keychain access group on this device, available after first unlock. Temporary date previews do not retarget it. The widget displays a place name, phase, and event times; it does not display coordinates or include advertising SDKs.

Local reminders are off until enabled. Reminder preferences, recorded event places, and a bounded schedule remain on your iPhone; they are given to iOS for notification delivery. No push server or background location tracking is used. You can disable presets and cancel event reminders in Settings.

Apple handles the one-time Remove Ads purchase. Moon Guide checks verified StoreKit entitlements and provides Restore Purchases. Widgets, reminders, and observing tools remain free. A verified purchaser bypasses ad bootstrap on subsequent launches. If ads already initialized in a purchase session, the app stops future requests and removes banners; that does not undo data already handled by an SDK.

Children

Moon Guide is a general-audience educational astronomy app and is not directed to children. Ad creative is restricted to Google’s general-audience content rating. The app does not knowingly create child profiles or send age information to the developer.
