Warmth can sound like “Take some more”
Three valid responses protect both hospitality and personal boundaries
What to notice
At a family meal, a host may ask Ще трошки? or say Беріть ще. The repetition can be a way of making sure the guest is comfortable and has enough, rather than evidence that the first answer was ignored on purpose.
There are three equally legitimate learner paths. Так, будь ласка accepts. Тільки зовсім трошки, будь ласка limits the amount. Дякую, більше не треба declines. A compliment such as Усе було дуже смачно can add warmth without changing the boundary.
Gendered fullness phrases are also common: Я вже наївся for many male speakers and Я вже наїлася for many female speakers. Because they encode speaker gender, the neutral primary phrase is easier for an early card; learners can explore the alternatives when useful.
No cultural lesson should reward overeating, drinking alcohol, hiding allergies, or disclosing a medical condition. The interaction should score whether the learner recognized a polite phrase—not whether they accepted more food.
