Our story

About Mova

Мова — це культура.

A family connection

My connection to Ukrainian is deeply personal. I married into a Ukrainian family, and learning the language became about much more than memorizing words. It became a way to connect more closely with my wife and her family, better understand Ukrainian culture, and help pass that language and heritage on to our children.

The resource I was looking for

When I began learning Ukrainian, I found plenty of individual lessons, phrase lists, and grammar explanations—but few resources brought everything together into one clear, practical, and engaging learning experience. I created Mova to build the resource I wanted for myself: a structured path that teaches real communication, explains how the language works, and keeps Ukrainian culture at the heart of the journey.

Learning alongside you

I am still a Ukrainian learner, too. Mova is shaped by the questions, frustrations, breakthroughs, and small victories that come with learning the language as an English speaker, along with the knowledge and perspective of the native Ukrainian speakers in my family.

A welcoming path forward

My goal is to make Mova one of the best and most welcoming resources for learning Ukrainian—and to openly share the learning journey with others along the way. Whether you are learning for family, heritage, travel, friendship, or simply a love of Ukraine, I hope Mova helps you build a deeper connection to the language and the people who speak it.
