What to notice

In a large apartment block, the street and building number may identify the structure but not the correct entrance. The word під’їзд commonly refers to an entrance-and-stairwell section serving part of the building.

The outer door may use a домофон—an entry intercom—or a code. After entering, the visitor may still need the floor and apartment number. Some buildings have elevators; others require stairs or have more than one elevator bank.

A useful arrival message is Я вже біля будинку—“I am already by the building.” Then ask Який у вас під’їзд? or Який код домофона?

This is a common urban pattern, not a national building standard. New developments, older blocks, converted buildings, small houses, and accessible entrances may work very differently.
