Warmth lives in the little meal phrases
Offer, accept, enjoy, and decline without losing the relationship
What to notice
Смачного! is said before or as someone begins eating. English often renders it as “Enjoy your meal,” although the social timing is more important than a word-for-word match.
A host may say Пригощайтеся—“Help yourself” or “Please have some”—and Беріть ще—“Have some more.” These phrases make food available and keep the table socially warm.
A guest can accept with Так, дякую or Дуже смачно. To stop, use a complete appreciative phrase: Дякую, я вже ситий if the speaker is male, or сита if female; or Дякую, більше не можу.
Some hosts repeat an offer because the first refusal may sound modest or because offering is a form of care. That does not cancel a guest’s boundary, allergy, religious practice, or appetite.
