Begin with the person, not the task
A short greeting and polite frame make errands, messages, and requests easier to enter
What to notice
Learners often memorize the task—“Where is…?” or “I need…”—but omit the opening that establishes the interaction. Добрий день creates a polite frame before the request in a shop, clinic, office, reception desk, or first message to an unfamiliar person.
Підкажіть, будь ласка literally resembles “prompt/tell me,” but in everyday requests it often means “Could you tell me…?” It works naturally for directions, availability, procedures, and whom to contact.
The frame is modular: Добрий день. Підкажіть, будь ласка, де зупинка? or …чи є у вас дитячий сироп? The learner can keep the social opening stable while replacing the information gap.
Brevity is not automatically rude. Emergency, disability, speech difference, sensory overload, crowded transit, and messaging conventions can all change what is possible. Mova should teach a dependable warm default while never grading a person’s character from one short interaction.
