The Carpathians are not one folk costume

The mountains shape pastoral work, forestry, travel, settlement, architecture, seasonal movement, and music, but landscape does not create one uniform culture.

Hutsul, Boiko, and Lemko identities have their own dialect features, dress traditions, songs, instruments, building forms, histories, and geographic centers. People may identify strongly, partly, differently, or not at all with these labels.

A полонина is a high mountain meadow associated with summer grazing and seasonal work. It is a useful word for connecting geography with food, animals, labor, and landscape rather than treating the region as scenery alone.

Tourism and souvenir markets often blend motifs. Mova should attribute a craft, melody, garment, or ritual to a specific community or source when evidence exists—and use “Carpathian” only when the broader label is justified.
